Having read his autobiography in full, where everything from Gain of Function research in Wuhan, the lab leak theory, and the like are explained in full, plausible detail, the magnitude of complete lunacy, stupidity, propaganda, hypocrisy, and hate-mongering on the part of congressional Republican bullies like Rand Paul is just astounding. But the worst part is how extremely dangerous and profoundly fucked up this all is. It emboldens Dr. Fauci’s most violent haters to regularly send credible death threats to him, and even more unfairly, to his family. More broadly, it has a deeply chilling effect on good-faith science, public service, and Constitutional integrity—this time around the 5th Amendment.

Dr. Fauci got along with Republicans like Reagan, and both Bush I and II really well. Yet extreme conclusions are drawn without considering the most basic of basics, like that.

Sure, it’s certainly possible, although far less likely, that the lab leak theory is what happened. It’s certainly not dumb and fully debunkable the way something like the flat earth theory is. We’ll never know for sure on the lab leak. Dr. Fauci all but certainly doesn’t know for sure either, and publicly said so much on why.

What actually matters most is preventing future pandemics and investing in STEM… something Dr. Fauci’s most vile and violent haters aren’t interested in doing, in any sincere, evidence-based way.

So, for some links:

  1. I loved the Daily Show satire here to bring some humor and light to all of this. www.youtube.com/watch

  2. Also, while not talking about Fauci himself, Neil DeGrasse Tyson made a great StarTalk video recently about how America’s scientists are disappearing. It’s not a cliff, but a slow decline, as he contends. Worth a watch! www.youtube.com/watch

  3. Last, I included a recent NYT article on the attacks on the 5th Amendment via Dr. Fauci. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/0…
